Oh man watching Hoarders. This episode is so crazy. I own a cat. I would NEVER let what happened to those lady's cats happen to my cat. *shudders* Nor would I take a dump for 10+ years in a corner in bags!!! OMG. This is crazy!! This episode is Robin and Ken and jeez!! It's like a, it's like horrible!!

Ok. Well it's been a while I finally have scanned in some work. I would like to buy a new scanner cause the one I own is like ancient. As in 7 years ancient. It's all slow and the printing is even slower.

I made a collage of faces, some char designs for my Idran GN, and some reg faces for fun which were made at work. I also did a Red Sonja fanart for fun. Man it was really nice using markers to make the skin tone. More practice and I'll be able to use markers like paint or an artist that I admire on deviantart. Yay.

I also made a 3 piece sequential that I will be posting if I ever get to pencilling it. For now it's just blues.

Been not working on art recently. Really working on getting a new job ASAP. Been working just on sketches and some ideas for portfolio pieces. Thinking of doing some covers but really need to work on my pencils!!

Just worked on a small sketch again and some small character busts. Was kinda wanting to work on some fashion things for some characters but I worked on a character sheet for a while. I don't like how I developed the character so I'm going to try again and make the person more like I see them in my head.

Even better what advice does a pro have for an artist that is so wrapped up in being perfect that they don't work for fear of failure that hasn't come!? OMG

Been not very creative this vacation time. I'm a night owl...I know that I am but trying to be creative during the day can be a bit odd. It's like dragging out teeth. Need to fix that. I worked on some cute sketches yesterday and a costume for Yelsia. Hmm. I've also been able to read the "Making Comics" book by Scott McCloud. So far, things that I never thought of are really helpful. I tried one of his activities--layout your fav movie in 16 frames with NO WORDS!--it's hard. My boyfriend couldn't understand like half of my frames. Need to work on my visual elements, make them clearer.

I had a horrible nose bleed this morning that didn't let me draw at all. I missed the first bus to work cause of it. Had to keep holding my nose for like 30 minutes cause it wouldn't stop.

Mostly worked on sketching for ideas on stuff to submit for next wonder con and send to editors...hmm I hope I can figure out what to do.

I'm also missing my cars collar...oh wait, it's right here!

When I think of what I want to be or what I want to do...all I think about is drawing or doubting if drawing is what I should be doing.

I want to just draw day in day out. That means as a job and as a hobby.

I want to create graphic novels, comics, and images for people to swoon over. To get to my goal of just seeing my work on a mass market shelf and think, "There I am. :)." THAT'S MY GOAL. One of my highest goals, I think. And I'm gonna get there.

Hard work. Hard times. I'm gonna get there.

For now my portfolio needs some illustration work. Like some imagery--a bear fighting a man or like a woman about to fight off attackers from another world or something!

So far my list goes:

-Conla Fairy Tale -- only have ONE illustration ready for graytones. Ugh
-Idran comic pages --
-Pin Up-

I need to think of other things that display my talents and skills to get more pencil work or pin up work in the comics industry. Hmm, what else is there...besides pin ups, pages, and character mock ups...hmmm.....*thinking*

Today was an interesting day. I wanted to get lunch and a coffee at my borders but the bus was not coming even though the automatic reader said it was. Hmm, that seems to happen...alot...mmph!

I got to my destination at about 140 which was 40 mins later than I wanted. Hmm. Well I got to eat and looked around borders for my real inspiration--stuff! Looking at covers, book titles, mags. Those things really spark my interest and creativity. I was thinking of buying a bargain book or mag but I decided that alot of the material could be found via the net!

Hmm, I got really inspired by seeing the GN and comics. Seeing all of them is daunting, so many people--artists, writers, editors--but so interesting. What if one day I could be there...my last name there? I'm sure many others feel the same or wonder themselves. Honestly--I think I can get there.

I've only done one sketch really since I've been reeling from this cold and my period. Hahaha. At one point I had my period and a nose bleed at the same time. I was like, "WOW...I'm bleeding from so many places!!" It was amusing to me.

This guy was done on the bus. I made it while looking at these really vivid pink flowers on my route to work. They are so bright while the fog is rolling in.

I also had a chance to work on my index page to my website. I improved it with a special graphic novel section that I will fill soon enough.

Oy, this sickness has been such a drain on everything. Have been loading up on vitamins, water, tea, orange juice, chicken soup. Ugh. I've also been watching LIFE, the Japanese drama. It was interesting until it was the same over and over and wasn't interesting. I hate the main antagonist. What a fucking cunt. Such a cunt. Ugh. Her character is so not realistic because no one would let that amount of behavior go on or at least, I wouldn't. I don't think I would at least. Bah.

I really despise characters like Manami. They are very transparent. Though they may have layers, all the layers are easily seen. Also real people wouldn't let a person like that get away with the stuff that Manami did to people. Bullies are interesting. They are people who seek attention, who need the validation that they are good, they do no wrong, they are interesting and not lacking what they know deep down they lack. I was bullied as a kid, tho it was thankfully what others would consider light. The bullying made me a mad mad mad person but after a while I just thought, "HS is over. Is my employer gonna care? No. Prob Not. Is my boss going to put me in with the cool employees? No. Prob not. Who cares?"

Ugh japanese dramas like this frustrate me beyond all words since it just makes me want to punch the antagonists cause thats what they need, a good PUNCH!

So worked on some sketches again yesterday. Went with a friend around the city. We drew, went to art museum, went to like three cafes. It was really fun and it really reminded me why I liked the city--its accessible and theres always something to do.

The weather tho, can go to hell.

These were done really quick. 40 min sketches. I also did some gesture work while out yesterday. It was good and really loosened my hand but at the same time, same ol' habits wanted to come out.

I'm really grateful to the editor of Aspen for letting me make a piece that was put in this issue. I'm also glad Siya Oum colored it. I've watched her artwork for maybe 2 years. Never imagined her to color my artwork. I'm going to eventually put up my lineart on my website portfolio.

I honestly thought it would be like exciting and crazy emotional that I have something out there but I don't know, I'm not tripping. I actually want to push myself more now so that I get more experience and skill to be better after all--aren't artists never satisfied with their work?

I'm currently away from my desk today. Not very happy about that, but what are you going to do? So the last two days I've drawn some sketches, been working on my comic lines, realized I'm falling back into bad habits.

Need to rectify that!! RECTIFY!!!

These were done with pens on the bus. Lately it's been hard to concentrate on the bus since it's all bummpy bump! Hard to do when you want to draw strong lines. I need to not draw such hard lines on the outsides and draw even lines that both hard, strong, soft and light. So to distinguish between shape, distance, and volume.

Oh, I'm still hung up on the whole city college not having classes is really depressing. But I guess I'm just going to bite the bullet and invest in some gnomon workshop dvds and try next semester.

Well,

I've been working on some linearts all day. And taking breaks...I'm so bad. Mmm. I just got an idea for a quick sketch...

Hmm, well anyway, pencilling a comic page can be quite...hard and takes a long time for me to sit and just plug. I need to concentrate more. My biggest gripes is that I tend to take what I have been taught and just keep running with it even though it might not work. It's ridiculous cause most things I have been taught in school have been useless for my craft.

I've been just trying to go my way. Work on my work the way I want to see it and stop trying to fit the mold that alot of artists do because I think thats the 'right'. Pssh.

Anyways. I'm thinking of getting a new scanner. I hate my scanner, it's ancient!! 2004 baby~!

Yesterday I tried to register for classes at city college and jesus...wth. My appointment was at 1 pm and when I went to register for drawing classes, all that was left was upper division classes and classes that I did not want to take. Whaa, I don't get it. Why give me an appointment only to not let me get the classes I would like?

Blah. I think I'm just going to buy dvd's from Gnomon workshop and just spend less. Fii on this whole, 1,000k a class for the same info!!

Just got home about two hours ago. On my way to work, worked on this:

I work on some index cards to learn how to use focus and small spaces, but convey the most. It also gives me a reason to work on environments and perspective. I think it can be fun and its a real challenge since I use only pen and can't "erase". I think it challenges me.

I'm also about to move on to my next couple of pages of Idrans first volume. Mmm, soon will have to design the website. I'm also thinking of how I'm going to work on my poster arts.

Well, been working on some sketches today and some new artwork I'm trying to finish. Going to work on this poster type project for my graphic novel. I've never done poster art but I think it'll be cool. I'm going for like a movie poster theme with like pop candy art added in.

Going to work on my graphic novel pencils now but I wanted to post my marker sketch.

It's of my character Sila that I will eventually be working on in the future. I just really like the design but I also am obsessed with reading Mass Effect Fanfiction!!!! Ugh it's like an obsession!

Yesterday was full of no sketches. Been working a drawing on a comic board that I took out of the plastic. It's pretty so far. Like a garden...a weird garden.

Today I've been just been working on a small pic. Practice on shapes and form in colors. I think I'm learning. Trying to break my old habits and old information that I wasn't using correctly or even how I wanted to use it regarding my work.

I'm going to take a break before I either work on some comic pages or my idran poster arts.

Sometimes...no alot of times...I get very discouraged. I also get very...confused and unable to really know if I'm doing what I am supposed to. I work as a customer service rep full time. I am an artist part time. I want to be a full time artist. A concept artist, illustrator, a comic cover artist, I don't know someone who just draws all day.

When I look at artists that have influenced others or me, I think, "Huh, I don't think I will ever get to that. Sucks..." and that...isn't good. I need to not think that way at all. It doesn't help me, it just makes me feel worthless. I need to feel that I am capable cause I am. I'm smart, I can catch on quick, I am relentless, I am a hard worker.

With more work and just keeping it going, I'll eventually get there!

A long time no write, eh blog? Going to try to post at least once a day. I'm going to dump a big lump now.

Work has been okay. I have four chapters ready for drawing on my comic, Idran. It was a bit hard since I had been writing the story for maybe 5 years and I don't know the characters like I should. Like if Lancelot is a mean person or if Yelsia likes onions or anything like that. Their personalities, I never really knew about are just coming to light. It's an interesting process, trying to create a graphic novel/webcomic.

I've also been experimenting using different paper and different techniques to create my visions. It's been fun, been using canson paper. I've two things I made, but one I need to scan in.

What is "passion?"

What, specifically am I, passionate about?

I truly can sit here and say to the world and universe, I don't know. Or rather, I have too many and do not know how to concentrate on one enough to turn it into a career. Or at least, I don't know how to focus and turn my strengths into a career.

I think of ways to help myself:

promotion
working deligently
spread of word
applying to jobs that are art related to gauge how well I am at what I think I can do

I think I do alot but sometimes, sometimes, I...

I don't do these things. I sit and watch TV. I waste time. I cut myself short. I literally hold myself back because I can't seem to get up and try hard and pull myself out. Instead I...I complain. Yes, an artist that complains and says WHY OH ME~!! Well...

I need to stop. I need to to just live.

I watched that guy who has no arms, no legs, but he's still living. He is trying everyday to just live his life and be a person who does what he wants and wants a world full of limitless life.

I know, how can someone do that with stuff like oh debt, responsibility, stuff that gets in the way? I don't know but I think you just have to go forward. Forward. Walking. Going.

Well working on a piece. Really haven't colored lately. I am really trying to work on it, but I want to work on that line art. This was made a while ago. I hope to work on my job search too.

Always wanting to work on my pencils for my sequential art. Yay.

I am going to work on my stuff. That I need to keep reminding myself. Every.Single.Day.

I want to be like the Nicola Scott, Amy Reeder Hadley, Larocca, or hell, a Dodson! Ugh. Maybe one day, or today.

I sometimes think that maybe its not what I can do or maybe its too hard. Sometimes it is too hard to do but I don't know I'm taking that biggggg chance that this could be it. This is what I think I have been looking for to be the role I can play in this world.

But--

Sometimes I don't think I can. I think I've made the worst mistake I could EVER make and I will never be able to take it back.

No! THAT CAN'T BE IT.

I don't...want to give up. No. Because I breathe it in, live, think about it and create it everyday. I need to just DO IT.

Some work I did for fun and visiting some old skills. I really like gray papers. I want to make more of these. I don't draw guys as much so I want to tackle that. I also want to tackle more environments. I have but I can't post it since its some work that is in production.

Jealousy. Oh Jealousy. I know that to each his own and sometimes good things happen to people. Sometimes though, you think to yourself if you aren't pushing yourself enough and even if you are, why aren't good things happening to you?

I feel like I do alot and sometimes not enough. I especially get frustrated when I make things and people don't "get" it but whatever.

Maybe I just need to see the world as half full. Hmm. I also need to stop saying "I'd like to make comics!" and just say to myself, "I'm making comics and going to sit at my desk, and make one!"
I have alot of difficultly trying to sit without getting distracted or just...procrastinating. Thats bad.

Wondercon Day 1

Wondercon has begun. Today was the first day. So far its been a good run. Not much happened but I got to see Ethan Van Schiver, Colleen Doran, Amanda Connor, Wendy and Rich Pini, Adam and Joe Kubert and a little of Gail Simone.

It was really exciting and I felt at home. I'm really glad I'm going and glad that I worked on portfolio for viewing. I really hope the reviews don't kill me cause I'm only fixating that it will be bad so that I don't get my hopes up, but a part of me is hoping. hmm

Today was a rush of people, the beginning had me turning in my barcode ticket to two spots because it couldn't be scanned in and then had to be input manly which turned into just me verifying whom I was and the lady at first couldn't find my name on the page but she did.

From there I trolled in the Exhibitors hall and then moved onto really good inspiration lectures most about art and comics and how to break in or to be better at something. Really good choices for me to go to. I did miss out on a digital painting tutorial but it's cool.

I hope tomorrow is just as fun and a little art ful.

Welp, after some frustration I worked on this. It's not too bad but blah. I hope to make more. It's slightly difficult to make stuff since it's been so long but blah. Just keep treading at it right?

I should apply to art jobs. I get scared to do so cause I'm like "shit...I suck". Basically I feel I suck and I actually might not. Cuz I'm the one looking at my art I just see the fallicies. Lame...

This is pretty old...well okay not old but a couple of monthes ago. I like it. It's part of a story I might work on in the future. It's about well, a career driven woman who wants to have a relationship but she loves men a little too much to settle down but deep down all she wanted was to settle.

I've also been trying to do my mini comic for my Idran comic series which is my little comic idea baby. So far I'm working on my blue pencils for the layouts and camera positioning. Seems to be working though I have stopped half way to work on environments/conceptual art. I'm trying a new stragtegy of trying shapes first then detailing instead of detailing first but it is a bit hard. Habits die hard.

So I have been working on my gestures and trying to emphasize on line and impact. So far I think I am making progress.

Every day before, during, and after work I try to work on my art. Whether it's by line or by studying.

I am also trying to get my comic pages done for future pencilling. The sketching so far is proving to be difficult since there are positions and gestures I have never done.

Woo boy.

Oh, I'm also open to working on art crafts...or am I...I don't know for sure but I am willing to try...err never mind.

Long time no write Journal.

So what's been going on?

Well, I've made a 50 page mini-comic ready for production but I'm stuck making the environment designs and making sure that the type of environment fits the type of story I'm making. So far, it's been slow but it's been going...slowly...like a snail.

I've also been thinking of some promo material for myself--stuff to get me excited. Poses and pin-ups. So far it's been ok.

So I havent made much progress in my opinion over finding A. a different job B. getting more freelancing to get more experience and C. Progessing in environments or style.

I'm trying really really hard to keep focus and work hard to become a 2D artist/illustrator. I know my strengths lie in this route but I just need more time to work at the skill exclusively. I hope by keeping this personal blog I can accomplish that.

So I guess I'll share this piece of art. I liked making it but I wish I could color it.

Sometimes it's hard for me to go back and try to do something with enough oofhm! and like really take a crack at it.

I consider myself an ok artist, I draw and whatnot but I feel like the motivation and the strength to get to where I'd like to be is lost. It almost makes me want to just stop drawing all together since I feel like nothing I do is right or whatever.

I hope that maybe I'll get over this hump.
